Trade Corn

Corn or maize as it is commonly referred to in the USA, was amongst the first cereal grain to be domesticated in the USA and soon spread through Europe thanks to contact in the late 15th and early 16th century with European settlers.

Thanks to scientific advances in recent years, traditionally grown corn is becoming increasing unpopular with farmers as they now prefer hybrid corn which is genetically modified to produce a higher yield of crop. Corn is one of the first crops for which genetically modified varieties make up a sizable proportion of the yearly worldwide harvest.

Corn is grown extensive throughout the world; a larger quantity of corn is produced each year than any other grain. The United States produces almost half of the world's harvest. Other top producing countries include China, Brazil, France, Indonesia, and South Africa.

Only a small proportion of Soybean products are consumed directly by humans; however the products are used extensively in a wide range of foods which include, baby food, diet-food products, beer, ale, noodles, cooking oil, margarine, mayonnaise and salad dressing.
